Gastrografin + povidone-iodine is a combination of two agents used for gastrointestinal procedures. Gastrografin is a water-soluble, iodinated radiopaque contrast medium containing sodium amidotrizoate and meglumine amidotrizoate (also known as diatrizoate sodium and diatrizoate meglumine). It is primarily used to enhance the visibility of the gastrointestinal tract during X-ray or CT imaging by increasing radiodensity due to its high iodine content. Gastrografin acts mainly as a diagnostic agent with minimal pharmacological effects, though it can exert a mild laxative effect because of its high osmolarity[1][2][3][4]. Povidone-iodine is an antiseptic solution widely used for disinfection and infection prevention in medical procedures; it releases free iodine, which rapidly kills bacteria, viruses, fungi, and protozoa on contact.
