Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Gatifloxacin + fluorometholone is a fixed-dose combination therapy primarily used in ophthalmology to treat inflammatory ocular conditions where a bacterial infection exists or there is a high risk of infection. Gatifloxacin is a fourth-generation fluoroquinolone antibiotic that provides broad-spectrum coverage against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria by inhibiting essential bacterial enzymes involved in DNA replication. Fluorometholone is a synthetic glucocorticoid (corticosteroid) that provides anti-inflammatory effects by suppressing the release of inflammatory mediators and reducing leukocyte migration. This combination is typically formulated as an ophthalmic suspension or solution for topical application to the eye.
