Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Otobiotic GL is a fixed-dose combination otic solution developed by Entod Pharmaceuticals. It contains gatifloxacin, a fourth-generation fluoroquinolone antibiotic, and lidocaine (also known as lignocaine), a local anesthetic. Gatifloxacin provides broad-spectrum antibacterial activity by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, which are essential for bacterial DNA replication, transcription, and repair. Lidocaine provides symptomatic relief from ear pain by blocking voltage-gated sodium channels, thereby inhibiting the initiation and conduction of nerve impulses. This combination is primarily indicated for the treatment of bacterial ear infections, such as otitis externa and otitis media, particularly when associated with significant pain.
