Drug intelligence / Profile preview
GBP510 + AS03 (marketed as SKYCovione) is a recombinant protein nanoparticle vaccine developed to prevent COVID-19. The vaccine was developed by SK bioscience in collaboration with GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) and the University of Washington's Institute for Protein Design. The active component, GBP510, is a self-assembling nanoparticle that displays 60 copies of the SARS-CoV-2 Spike protein receptor-binding domain (RBD). This antigen is formulated with GSK's AS03 adjuvant system, an oil-in-water emulsion containing squalene, DL-alpha-tocopherol, and polysorbate 80, which enhances the immune response. Phase 3 clinical trials demonstrated that the vaccine induces superior neutralizing antibody responses compared to the AstraZeneca ChAdOx1-S vaccine. It received marketing authorization from South Korea's Ministry of Food and Drug Safety in June 2022.
