gemcabene + atorvastatin

**Gemcabene + atorvastatin** is an oral fixed-dose combination of gemcabene, a novel lipid-lowering agent, and atorvastatin, a widely used HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor (statin). Both agents lower low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C): atorvastatin by inhibiting cholesterol biosynthesis via HMG-CoA reductase inhibition, and gemcabene primarily through inhibition of hepatic triglyceride synthesis and very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) production, possibly affecting gene expression in lipid metabolism pathways. The combination aims for additive or synergistic LDL-C reduction in patients with hypercholesterolemia inadequately controlled by statins alone. Clinical trials show dose-dependent additional LDL-C lowering and substantial C-reactive protein reduction with acceptable safety as add-on to statins[1][2][3][4][5].
