Overview

This is a combination therapy consisting of gemcitabine, cisplatin, and oral rehydration solution. Gemcitabine and cisplatin are cytotoxic chemotherapy agents commonly used together (often referred to as "GC" or "GemCis") for the treatment of various advanced cancers, including biliary tract cancer, non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), bladder cancer, and others[1][2][3][4][5][6][7]. Gemcitabine is a nucleoside analog that inhibits DNA synthesis by incorporating into DNA during replication, leading to cell death. Cisplatin is a platinum-based compound that forms DNA crosslinks and disrupts DNA repair and replication processes. Oral rehydration solution is not an antineoplastic agent but is included in this regimen to prevent or treat dehydration caused by chemotherapy-induced side effects such as vomiting or diarrhea. The addition of oral rehydration solution aims to maintain fluid and electrolyte balance during intensive chemotherapy.
