Overview
gemcitabine + cyclophosphamide + vincristine + prednisone is a combination chemotherapy regimen consisting of the antimetabolite gemcitabine, the alkylating agent cyclophosphamide, the microtubule inhibitor vincristine, and the corticosteroid prednisone. Gemcitabine works by inhibiting ribonucleotide reductase and incorporating into DNA to terminate chain elongation. Cyclophosphamide induces DNA cross-linking, while vincristine disrupts the mitotic spindle by binding to tubulin. Prednisone provides lympholytic effects through glucocorticoid receptor activation. This specific combination name is widely regarded as a nomenclature error for the G-CVP regimen (Obinutuzumab-CVP) used in the Fondazione Italiana Linfomi (FIL) FOLL19 Phase III trial for follicular lymphoma, where the 'G' for the anti-CD20 antibody Gazyva (obinutuzumab) was incorrectly expanded to gemcitabine in certain clinical databases.
