This combination regimen is a multi-modality adjuvant therapy protocol developed and studied by the Washington University School of Medicine for the treatment of resected pancreaticobiliary cancers. The regimen consists of induction chemotherapy with gemcitabine (a nucleoside analog) and docetaxel (a taxane), followed by concurrent chemoradiation using continuous infusion 5-fluorouracil (an antimetabolite) and 3-D conformal radiation, and concluding with consolidation gemcitabine and docetaxel. It targets a range of biliary tract and pancreatic malignancies, including cholangiocarcinoma, gallbladder cancer, pancreatic cancer, and ampullary cancer, aiming to improve outcomes following curative-intent resection by combining systemic chemotherapy with localized radiation to prevent recurrence.
