Drug intelligence / Profile preview
GEN-003 + Matrix M-2 is a therapeutic vaccine candidate developed for the treatment of genital herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2) infection. The vaccine consists of two recombinant HSV antigens—a transmembrane deletion mutant of glycoprotein D (gD2ΔTMR) and a large fragment of infected cell protein 4 (ICP4.2)—combined with the saponin-derived adjuvant Matrix-M2. GEN-003 is designed to elicit both humoral and cellular immune responses against HSV-2, reducing viral shedding and lesion rates in infected individuals. The addition of the Matrix-M2 adjuvant significantly enhances immunogenicity by stimulating robust antibody and T-cell responses[1][4][5]. Clinical trials have demonstrated that this combination can reduce HSV-2 shedding and lesion rates for at least six months post-treatment[1][4].
