Overview
GeneVax HIV vaccine + GeneVax IL-12 is an investigational DNA-based therapeutic vaccine combination developed by Auro Vaccines in collaboration with the AIDS Clinical Trials Group (ACTG). The regimen, also known as the ACTG 5281 vaccine, consists of two components: a multi-antigen DNA plasmid vaccine encoding six HIV-1 proteins (env, gag, pol, nef, tat, and vif) and a molecular adjuvant, GeneVax IL-12, which is a dual-promoter plasmid encoding the p35 and p40 subunits of human interleukin-12. Delivered via intramuscular electroporation, the vaccine is designed to elicit and enhance HIV-specific cellular immune responses, particularly CD4+ and CD8+ T cells, in individuals already infected with HIV. It is currently being evaluated as a therapeutic intervention to improve immune control of the virus.
