Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Genosyl DS (Genosyl Delivery System) is a tankless inhaled nitric oxide (iNO) delivery device developed by Vero Biotech. Unlike traditional iNO systems that rely on large, heavy pressurized cylinders, Genosyl DS generates nitric oxide from nitrogen dioxide (NO2) at the point of care using a cassette-based system. Nitric oxide is a potent pulmonary vasodilator that acts by increasing intracellular cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) through the activation of soluble guanylate cyclase, leading to smooth muscle relaxation. It is FDA-approved for the treatment of term and near-term neonates with hypoxic respiratory failure associated with pulmonary hypertension, where it improves oxygenation and reduces the need for extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). In February 2023, its approval was expanded for use in anesthesia in the surgical suite.
