Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Gentamicin + betamethasone dipropionate is a topical combination therapy consisting of an aminoglycoside antibiotic and a potent synthetic corticosteroid. Gentamicin acts by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit of bacteria, inhibiting protein synthesis across a broad spectrum of gram-positive and gram-negative pathogens. Betamethasone dipropionate provides anti-inflammatory, antipruritic, and vasoconstrictive effects by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis and stabilizing lysosomal membranes. Developed by Dermapharm AG, this formulation is primarily investigated for the treatment of bacterially infected eczema and other corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses where secondary bacterial infection is present or suspected. It is currently being evaluated in Phase 3 clinical trials in Germany as a potential generic or reformulated version of the reference product, Diprogenta.
