gentamicin + mupirocin

This is a topical combination of two antibiotics, gentamicin and mupirocin, formulated to treat bacterial skin infections. Gentamicin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic that binds to the 30S subunit of bacterial ribosomes, inhibiting protein synthesis and leading to cell death. It is effective against a broad range of gram-negative bacteria as well as some gram-positive organisms. Mupirocin is a polyketide antibiotic that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by reversibly binding to bacterial isoleucyl-tRNA synthetase (isoleucine--tRNA ligase), thereby blocking the incorporation of isoleucine into proteins. This results in bacteriostatic or bactericidal activity depending on concentration and exposure time. The combination provides dual antibacterial action targeting both gram-positive (notably Staphylococcus aureus) and gram-negative pathogens, making it useful for mixed or resistant skin infections[2][3][7].
