gentamicin + tobramycin

Gentamicin + tobramycin is a combination of two aminoglycoside antibiotics, each with broad-spectrum bactericidal activity against Gram-negative and some Gram-positive bacteria. Both drugs act by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit of susceptible bacteria, inhibiting protein synthesis and leading to cell death. Gentamicin is commonly used for serious infections such as those of the urinary tract, gastrointestinal tract, lungs (including bronchiectasis), and heart valves (endocarditis). Tobramycin is often used for lung infections (notably in cystic fibrosis) and can also be administered intravenously or topically for various bacterial infections. The combination may be considered in clinical scenarios where enhanced or broadened antibacterial coverage is desired or when resistance patterns necessitate dual therapy[2][3][5]. Both agents are associated with potential nephrotoxicity and ototoxicity; monitoring during therapy is essential[9]. No unique brand-name product containing both gentamicin and tobramycin as a fixed-dose combination was identified.
