Overview

Carlin is a combined oral contraceptive (COC) developed by Effik, containing the synthetic progestogen gestodene and the synthetic estrogen ethinylestradiol. It is available in two dosage strengths: 75 mcg gestodene with either 20 mcg or 30 mcg ethinylestradiol. The drug functions primarily by inhibiting ovulation through the suppression of gonadotropin secretion (follicle-stimulating hormone and luteinizing hormone) from the pituitary gland. Additionally, it induces changes in the cervical mucus, making it less permeable to sperm, and alters the endometrium to reduce the likelihood of implantation. Carlin is approved for the prevention of pregnancy and is administered as a daily oral tablet.
