Overview

GHRP-1 + AG is a combination of two agents: Growth hormone-releasing peptide 1 (GHRP-1) and AG (presumed to denote acylated ghrelin or an active ghrelin analog, as supported by its use in clinical trial NCT00381602 for end-stage renal disease)[7]. GHRP-1 is a synthetic pentapeptide analog designed to stimulate growth hormone (GH) release through binding to the ghrelin receptor (GHSR1a) in the pituitary, independently of growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH) and with no opioid activity[2][7][1][5]. When administered with AG, the combination may have synergistic or additive effects on GH release, owing to AG's role as a physiological ligand for the GHSR1a receptor[7]. The primary indication has been investigational, with clinical studies in subjects with end-stage renal disease on hemodialysis[7]. The mechanism is an agonism at the ghrelin receptor, thus stimulating the pituitary to release GH, which can increase serum IGF-1 and potentially improve metabolic and anabolic pathways.
