Overview

Ginkgo biloba + piracetam is an investigational combination of a botanical extract and a synthetic nootropic being evaluated for the management of neurological and cognitive symptoms associated with post-COVID-19 syndrome (long COVID). Ginkgo biloba is a herbal extract derived from the leaves of the *Ginkgo biloba* tree, known for its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and neuroprotective properties. Its biological effects include the modulation of cerebral blood flow, free radical scavenging, and antagonism of platelet-activating factor (PAF) receptors. Piracetam is a synthetic small molecule belonging to the racetam class of nootropics, thought to enhance cognitive function by modulating AMPA-type glutamate receptors and improving neuronal membrane fluidity. The combination is currently being studied in clinical trials led by Beni-Suef University to determine its efficacy in alleviating cognitive impairments following COVID-19 infection.
