Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Ginsenoside Rg3 (brand name Shengtan) is a tetracyclic triterpenoid saponin monomer isolated from the roots of *Panax ginseng*. Developed by Dalian Fusheng Pharmaceutical, it was approved by the Chinese NMPA as a Class I new drug for the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) in combination with chemotherapy. Its primary mechanism of action involves the inhibition of tumor angiogenesis by suppressing the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), such as MMP-2 and MMP-9. Additionally, it exhibits immunomodulatory effects, enhancing the activity of natural killer (NK) cells and T lymphocytes, thereby improving the immune response and quality of life in cancer patients.
