GIP(3-30)NH2 is a truncated peptide fragment of the endogenous hormone gastric inhibitory polypeptide (GIP), also known as glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide. It acts as a high-affinity, competitive antagonist of the human GIP receptor (GIPR). By binding to the GIP receptor without activating it, GIP(3-30)NH2 blocks the physiological actions of endogenous GIP—including stimulation of insulin secretion and other pancreatic hormones—making it a valuable tool for studying metabolic regulation and potential therapeutic target in metabolic diseases such as type 2 diabetes and obesity. The peptide is produced endogenously via DPP-4 cleavage of pro-GIP-derived peptides but can also be synthesized for research purposes[1][5][7][8].
