GIP(3-42) is a peptide antagonist of the Gastric Inhibitory Polypeptide Receptor (GIPR). It is a truncated version of the native incretin hormone GIP(1-42), lacking the first two N-terminal amino acids. In clinical research conducted at the University Hospital Gentofte in Copenhagen, GIP(3-42) (referred to as GIP-A) is used to study the physiological roles of GIP in humans. By competitively blocking the GIP receptor, it inhibits the insulinotropic effect of GIP and allows for the investigation of GIP's impact on glucose metabolism, glucagon secretion, and lipid handling. It is primarily investigated in the context of type 2 diabetes mellitus and obesity to understand the pathophysiology of these conditions and the potential therapeutic value of GIP receptor modulation.
