Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Glandosane is a synthetic saliva substitute (artificial saliva) used for the symptomatic relief of dry mouth (xerostomia) and hyposalivation. It is formulated as an aerosol spray containing carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) as a thickening agent to provide lubrication and mimic the viscosity of natural saliva. The formulation also includes sorbitol and various electrolytes (sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, phosphate, and chloride) to approximate the mineral content of human saliva. It is primarily indicated for patients with Sjögren's syndrome, medication-induced dry mouth, or salivary gland dysfunction following head and neck radiation therapy. Notably, Glandosane has an acidic pH (approximately 5.75), which has been associated with a potential for dental demineralization in some clinical studies, leading to its comparison with more neutral or remineralizing saliva substitutes.
