Overview

Glatiramer acetate + cetirizine hydrochloride is a combination of two pharmaceutical agents with distinct mechanisms and indications. Glatiramer acetate is an immunomodulatory agent used primarily for the treatment of relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis (MS). Its mechanism involves modulation of immune processes thought to be responsible for MS; it acts as a decoy for immune cells attacking myelin by mimicking myelin basic protein, thereby reducing the frequency of relapses in MS patients[1][7]. Cetirizine hydrochloride is a second-generation antihistamine that selectively antagonizes histamine H1 receptors. It is used to treat symptoms associated with allergies such as sneezing, itching, watery eyes, runny nose, and chronic urticaria (hives)[2][5]. There has been research into using cetirizine to reduce local injection site reactions from glatiramer acetate therapy in MS patients; however, no significant benefit was found[3].
