Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Gliclazide + metformin is a fixed-dose combination of two oral antidiabetic agents used to manage type 2 diabetes mellitus. Gliclazide is a sulfonylurea that increases insulin secretion from pancreatic beta cells, thereby lowering blood glucose levels. Metformin is a biguanide that reduces hepatic glucose production, decreases intestinal absorption of glucose, and improves insulin sensitivity in peripheral tissues. Together, these drugs help control blood sugar in adults with type 2 diabetes when diet, exercise, and monotherapy are insufficient[4][5][7]. This combination is widely prescribed as both initial therapy and as an add-on to other antidiabetic regimens.
