Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Glimepiride + atorvastatin is a fixed-dose combination of two small molecule drugs used primarily in the management of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus who also have dyslipidemia. Glimepiride is a sulfonylurea antidiabetic agent that lowers blood glucose by stimulating insulin secretion from pancreatic beta cells. Atorvastatin is an HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor (statin) that reduces cholesterol synthesis in the liver, thereby lowering LDL cholesterol and triglycerides while modestly increasing HDL cholesterol. This combination targets both hyperglycemia and abnormal lipid profiles, which are common comorbidities in type 2 diabetes, aiming to reduce cardiovascular risk and improve metabolic control[8].
