glimepiride + metformin (Laboratorios Pharmedic)

Amiride M is a fixed-dose combination oral hypoglycemic agent developed and marketed by Laboratorio Pharmedic for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus. It consists of glimepiride, a second-generation sulfonylurea, and metformin, a biguanide. Glimepiride acts by stimulating insulin release from pancreatic beta cells through the closure of ATP-sensitive potassium channels. Metformin works primarily by decreasing hepatic glucose production, decreasing intestinal absorption of glucose, and improving insulin sensitivity by increasing peripheral glucose uptake and utilization. This combination provides complementary mechanisms to improve glycemic control in patients whose hyperglycemia is not adequately managed by monotherapy.
