Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Glipizide + metformin** is an oral fixed-dose antidiabetic combination for **type 2 diabetes mellitus**. It combines glipizide, a sulfonylurea that binds the pancreatic beta-cell sulfonylurea receptor 1 and closes ATP-sensitive potassium channels to stimulate insulin secretion, with metformin, a biguanide that principally reduces hepatic glucose production and improves insulin sensitivity. The complementary actions improve glycemic control when diet and exercise alone are insufficient. The original US branded product was **Metaglip**, developed by Bristol Myers Squibb; generic immediate-release tablets are available.
