Overview

This is a combination of three diabetes medications: glipizide (a sulfonylurea), metformin (a biguanide), and insulin. While glipizide and metformin are available as a fixed-dose combination under brand names like Metaglip, adding insulin would typically be done as a separate medication. This triple therapy approach might be used when dual oral therapy doesn't provide adequate glycemic control in type 2 diabetes. Glipizide stimulates insulin secretion from the pancreas, metformin improves insulin sensitivity and reduces hepatic glucose production, while exogenous insulin supplements the body's natural insulin.
