GLP-1 + NAC is an intranasal combination therapy in preclinical development by Neuronasal for the treatment of neurological conditions. The drug candidate combines a Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist with N-acetylcysteine (NAC), delivered via a proprietary nasal spray technology designed for direct nose-to-brain transport. This delivery method aims to achieve therapeutic concentrations in the central nervous system while bypassing the blood-brain barrier and minimizing systemic exposure. The mechanism of action involves GLP-1 receptor-mediated neuroprotection and anti-inflammatory signaling, complemented by NAC's role as a precursor to glutathione, which helps mitigate oxidative stress and regulate glutamatergic signaling. This synergistic approach is intended to address the complex pathophysiology of brain injuries, such as traumatic brain injury (TBI) and concussion, as well as neurodegenerative diseases.
