Overview

GLPG3970 + sulfasalazine is an investigational, unbranded combination of two drugs: **GLPG3970**, a novel, first-in-class, dual salt-inducible kinase 2 and 3 (SIK2/SIK3) inhibitor, and **sulfasalazine**, a disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drug (DMARD) typically used for chronic inflammatory diseases. GLPG3970 acts by modulating cytokine production via SIK2/SIK3 inhibition, thus reducing inflammation and altering immune responses relevant in conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis and inflammatory bowel disease[7][3][1]. Sulfasalazine’s known mechanism centers on inhibition of prostaglandin, leukotriene, and cytokine synthesis. The combination is being evaluated mainly for potential drug-drug interaction and safety, particularly regarding effects on pharmacokinetics and possible transporter inhibition (BCRP), within healthy volunteers. No clinical efficacy for a specific disease has been established for this combination[3][5][1]. GLPG3970 was developed by Galapagos.
