Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Gylden Pharma's glucagon microneedle patch is a transdermal delivery system currently in Phase 2 development for the treatment of hypoglycemia. Glucagon is a peptide hormone that acts as an agonist at the glucagon receptor, primarily in the liver, to stimulate the breakdown of glycogen into glucose (glycogenolysis) and the synthesis of glucose from non-carbohydrate sources (gluconeogenesis). This microneedle formulation is designed to offer a stable, user-friendly, and non-invasive alternative to traditional injectable rescue treatments for severe hypoglycemic events in patients with diabetes. By utilizing microneedle technology, the drug bypasses the skin's outer barrier to provide rapid systemic absorption without the need for reconstitution or traditional needle-based injection.
