Drug intelligence / Profile preview
glucagon-like peptide-1 + human transferrin (BRX-0585) is a long-acting recombinant fusion protein consisting of a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4)-resistant glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) analog genetically fused to a non-glycosylated form of human transferrin. Developed by BioRexis Pharmaceutical (later acquired by Pfizer) in collaboration with the National Institute on Aging (NIA/NIH), this biologic is designed to overcome the extremely short half-life of native GLP-1 (1–2 minutes) by leveraging the transferrin receptor-mediated recycling pathway, extending its half-life to approximately 2 days. BRX-0585 acts as an agonist of the glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor (GLP-1R), stimulating glucose-dependent insulin secretion and promoting pancreatic beta-cell proliferation. It was investigated as a preclinical candidate for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus and obesity.
