The combination of glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and vitamin C has been studied for its potential synergistic effects in managing hypoglycemia-induced endothelial dysfunction and inflammation in type 1 diabetes. Research shows that when GLP-1 and vitamin C are infused simultaneously, they almost completely counterbalance the deleterious effects of hypoglycemia. Vitamin C appears to reduce oxidative stress and inflammation during hypoglycemia, while GLP-1 provides protective effects on endothelial function. The combination appears more effective than either component alone, with vitamin C potentially overcoming endothelial resistance to GLP-1 that is mediated by oxidative stress.
