Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Glucosamine + indomethacin is a fixed-dose combination pharmaceutical product developed and marketed by Shanxi C.Y. Pharmaceutical Group. It combines glucosamine, an amino sugar that serves as a natural precursor for the biosynthesis of glycosaminoglycans and proteoglycans in articular cartilage, with indomethacin, a potent non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). Indomethacin functions by inhibiting the cyclooxygenase enzymes (COX-1 and COX-2), which reduces the synthesis of pro-inflammatory prostaglandins, thereby providing analgesic, antipyretic, and anti-inflammatory effects. The combination is primarily indicated for the treatment of osteoarthritis and other inflammatory musculoskeletal conditions, leveraging the potential chondroprotective properties of glucosamine alongside the symptomatic relief provided by indomethacin.
