Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Glucosamine sulphate + chondroitin sulphate is a combination of two naturally occurring compounds commonly used as a dietary supplement to support joint health. Glucosamine stimulates the formation and repair of articular cartilage by promoting the synthesis of glycosaminoglycans. Chondroitin sulfate helps maintain cartilage structure by retaining water in the tissue and preventing enzymatic degradation. Together, they are believed to reduce inflammation, support cartilage integrity, improve joint function in osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, and provide modest pain relief for some individuals with osteoarthritis[1][4][5]. The combination may also suppress inflammatory pathways such as IL-1-induced gene expression of iNOS and COX-2 in cartilage[6]. While widely used for osteoarthritis symptom management (pain relief, improved mobility), evidence on their efficacy is mixed; most guidelines do not recommend routine use due to inconsistent results[3][4][8]. This product is available over-the-counter as a nutraceutical or dietary supplement rather than an approved pharmaceutical drug.
