Overview

This is a combination of two agents: - **Glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP)**, also known as gastric inhibitory polypeptide, is a 42-amino acid incretin hormone secreted by K cells in the small intestine in response to nutrient ingestion. GIP stimulates insulin secretion from pancreatic beta cells in a glucose-dependent manner via activation of its receptor (a class II G-protein coupled receptor), leading to increased intracellular cAMP and subsequent exocytosis of insulin granules. It also has roles in lipid metabolism, bone remodeling, and neuroregulation[2][3][4]. - **Alanine** is a non-essential amino acid that can act as an energy substrate and modulator of glucagon secretion. Alanine may potentiate the effects of incretins like GIP on glucagon release. The combination has been studied for its potential glucagonotropic effects—specifically how co-administration influences glucagon secretion and metabolic responses in healthy individuals[8]. The mechanism likely involves synergistic or additive stimulation of pancreatic alpha cell activity by both agents.
