GLUD1 inhibitor (Leuven Centre for Drug Design and Discovery) is a small molecule candidate currently in preclinical development for the treatment of aging and muscle wasting (sarcopenia). Developed by the Leuven Centre for Drug Design and Discovery (CD3), the drug targets glutamate dehydrogenase 1 (GLUD1), a mitochondrial enzyme responsible for the oxidative deamination of glutamate to alpha-ketoglutarate. By inhibiting GLUD1, the therapy aims to intervene in metabolic pathways that drive muscle atrophy and age-related functional decline. The project is part of CD3's strategic focus on translating academic research into novel therapeutic leads.
