Overview

This combination therapy, developed by the Air Force Military Medical University in China, is being investigated for the prevention of radiation-induced oral mucositis in patients with oral malignant tumors. The treatment combines Compound Glutamine Enteric-Coated Capsules (CGECC) with thalidomide. Glutamine serves as a vital precursor for protein synthesis and cell proliferation, supporting the maintenance of mucosal structure and promoting the rapid regeneration of mucosal cells. Thalidomide provides immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory effects, specifically through the inhibition of the NF-κB pathway, which has been shown to ameliorate mucositis during fractionated irradiation. The therapy is currently being evaluated in a Phase 3, open-label, randomized controlled trial comparing the combination against glutamine alone.
