Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Glutathione + ketamine is a combination therapy involving the administration of both glutathione, a tripeptide antioxidant, and ketamine, an NMDA receptor antagonist. Glutathione acts as a master antioxidant in the body, reducing oxidative stress and inflammation by neutralizing free radicals and supporting cellular detoxification processes. Ketamine is primarily used as an anesthetic and for treatment-resistant depression; it exerts its effects mainly through antagonism of the N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor on neurons, modulating glutamatergic neurotransmission and promoting neuroplasticity. The combination has been explored in clinical settings to determine whether adding intravenous (IV) glutathione to standard ketamine infusion improves outcomes in conditions such as major depressive disorder (MDD). While studies show that both agents are effective individually—ketamine for rapid antidepressant effects and glutathione for reducing oxidative stress—current evidence does not demonstrate significant additional benefit from combining them compared to ketamine alone[2][4]. This combination is typically administered via IV infusion protocols at specialized clinics.
