Overview

Glymur is an experimental oral rinse formulation developed by ACTA Dental Research BV for the management of halitosis (oral malodor). It consists of a combination of two antimicrobial agents: 0.05% chlorhexidine gluconate and 0.05% cetylpyridinium chloride (CPC). The formulation is designed to reduce the concentration of volatile sulfur compounds (VSCs) by targeting the anaerobic bacteria responsible for their production, particularly those residing on the posterior dorsum of the tongue. By combining chlorhexidine, a potent bisbiguanide antiseptic, with CPC, a quaternary ammonium compound, the rinse achieves a synergistic effect in reducing the microbial load and metabolic activity associated with oral malodor. Clinical studies conducted by ACTA have evaluated Glymur's efficacy in reducing VSC levels and altering the oral microbiome over a 14-day period compared to placebo.
