GM-CSF + cyclophosphamide + epirubicin is a combination regimen used primarily in the treatment of breast cancer, particularly in high-risk or early-stage settings. This combination includes: - Granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF), a cytokine that stimulates the production and function of white blood cells, supporting recovery from chemotherapy-induced neutropenia. - Cyclophosphamide, an alkylating agent that interferes with DNA replication and cell division, leading to cancer cell death. - Epirubicin, an anthracycline antibiotic that inhibits topoisomerase II and intercalates into DNA, disrupting replication and transcription. The addition of GM-CSF to cyclophosphamide and epirubicin regimens has been shown to reduce the severity and duration of neutropenia by priming hematopoietic progenitors before chemotherapy. This approach may allow for dose-dense or dose-intense chemotherapy schedules with improved tolerability[6]. The regimen is most commonly investigated for adjuvant or neoadjuvant therapy in breast cancer patients at high risk for recurrence[1][3][6].
