Drug intelligence / Profile preview
The GM2 vaccine + BCG vaccine is a **combination immunotherapy** consisting of the ganglioside **GM2 (a tumor-associated carbohydrate antigen found on the surface of many melanomas and other neuroectodermal tumors)**, together with **Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG)**, a live attenuated strain of Mycobacterium bovis traditionally used as a tuberculosis vaccine and as an immunostimulant adjuvant. In this combination, **BCG acts as an adjuvant to enhance the immune response to the GM2 antigen**. The product is designed as a cancer vaccine, most frequently studied for melanoma immunotherapy. Immunization with this combination induces both IgM and IgG antibody responses against GM2, typically short-lived, and is aimed at promoting an immune-mediated anti-tumor effect. The GM2/BCG combination has shown induction of GM2-specific antibodies in humans, supporting its use as an investigational cancer immunotherapy.
