GMCSF + antimony is a combination therapy consisting of granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF), typically in recombinant human form, and an antimonial compound (most commonly pentavalent antimonials such as sodium stibogluconate or meglumine antimoniate). This combination has been investigated primarily for the treatment of cutaneous leishmaniasis. The rationale is that GM-CSF acts as an immunomodulator by stimulating neutrophils and macrophages, enhancing phagocytosis and antigen presentation, while the antimonial component exerts direct antiparasitic effects against Leishmania species. Clinical studies have shown that topical application of GM-CSF alongside standard systemic or local administration of pentavalent antimonials can significantly accelerate healing times and improve cure rates in cutaneous leishmaniasis compared to monotherapy[1][2][3]. The combination may be particularly beneficial in severe cases or those refractory to standard therapy[2][3].
