Overview

The gold + silver + copper(I) oxide nanogel is an experimental multi-metallic nanocomposite designed for biomedical applications, specifically as an antibacterial and wound-healing agent. This nanogel typically consists of gold (Au) and silver (Ag) nanoparticles combined with copper(I) oxide (Cu2O) clusters, often stabilized within a polymeric or hydrogel matrix to enhance biocompatibility and controlled release. The therapeutic efficacy is driven by the synergistic effect of the three components: silver and copper(I) oxide provide potent broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity through the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and disruption of microbial cell membranes, while the gold component often serves to enhance stability, photothermal properties, or catalytic activity. This combination is particularly studied for its ability to combat multi-drug resistant (MDR) bacteria and accelerate the healing of infected wounds by modulating the inflammatory response and promoting collagen deposition.
