Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Golytely + bisacodyl is a combination bowel preparation regimen being evaluated for inpatient colonoscopy. It consists of a reduced volume (2 liters) of polyethylene glycol 3350 with electrolytes (Golytely) combined with 15 mg of the stimulant laxative bisacodyl. Golytely acts as an osmotic laxative, inducing a watery stool by retaining water in the intestinal lumen through osmotic pressure. Bisacodyl is a stimulant laxative that acts directly on the colonic mucosa and the enteric nervous system to stimulate peristalsis. This combination aims to provide similar bowel cleansing efficacy to the standard 4-liter Golytely regimen while offering better patient tolerability and compliance due to the lower fluid volume required.
