Overview

This drug is a combination of a gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) agonist and human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), commonly referred to as the "dual trigger" in assisted reproductive technology. The GnRH agonist stimulates the pituitary gland to release luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), mimicking the natural mid-cycle LH surge required for final oocyte maturation. hCG is administered alongside to further support oocyte maturation and luteal phase function. This combination aims to optimize oocyte maturation, improve pregnancy outcomes, and reduce the risk of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome compared with hCG alone or GnRH agonist alone[6]. The dual trigger approach is primarily used in controlled ovarian stimulation cycles for in vitro fertilization–intracytoplasmic sperm injection (IVF–ICSI).
