Overview

This is a combination therapy used primarily in assisted reproductive technology (ART), such as in vitro fertilization (IVF). It consists of a gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) antagonist and recombinant follicle stimulating hormone (rFSH). The GnRH antagonist acts by competitively binding to pituitary GnRH receptors, rapidly inhibiting the release of endogenous gonadotropins—specifically luteinizing hormone (LH) and FSH—thus preventing premature LH surges and ovulation during controlled ovarian hyperstimulation. Recombinant FSH is administered to stimulate the development of multiple ovarian follicles. This regimen allows for flexible cycle management, reduces the risk of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome compared to agonist protocols, and supports optimal oocyte retrieval for ART procedures[1][2][3][5].
