Overview

Goserelin + exemestane is a combination therapy used primarily in premenopausal women with hormone receptor-positive breast cancer, including both early (adjuvant) and advanced/metastatic settings. Goserelin is a synthetic luteinising hormone-releasing hormone (LHRH) agonist that suppresses ovarian function, leading to decreased estrogen production. Exemestane is an aromatase inhibitor that blocks the conversion of androgens to estrogens in peripheral tissues, further reducing estrogen levels. This dual approach effectively deprives hormone-sensitive breast cancer cells of estrogen stimulation, inhibiting their growth and proliferation. The regimen has demonstrated efficacy in improving disease-free survival compared to tamoxifen plus ovarian suppression[1][2][4]. It is generally well tolerated; common side effects include menopausal symptoms, arthralgia, myalgia, skin rash, headache, nausea/vomiting, and mild hair thinning[3][5].
