Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Grammidin** is a locally acting fixed-dose throat and oral-cavity anti-infective product marketed by Valenta Pharm. The unqualified registered product contains the peptide antibiotic **gramicidin C** and the quaternary-ammonium antiseptic **cetylpyridinium chloride**; it is supplied as resorption tablets and a metered-dose topical throat spray. Gramicidin C increases bacterial cytoplasmic-membrane permeability, destabilizing susceptible microbial cells and causing cell death, while cetylpyridinium chloride provides local antiseptic activity that suppresses microbial growth. It is used for infectious and inflammatory diseases of the throat and oral cavity, including pharyngitis, tonsillitis, gingivitis, stomatitis, and periodontitis. Grammidin-branded variants containing oxybuprocaine are distinct anesthetic-containing products and are not included in this exact two-active-ingredient annotation.
