Overview

**Granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) + chemotherapy** refers to the co-administration or sequential administration of G-CSF, a hematopoietic growth factor biologic, alongside cytotoxic chemotherapy agents. Chemotherapy agents damage rapidly dividing cells, causing cytopenias such as neutropenia. G-CSF (including forms like filgrastim, lenograstim, pegfilgrastim) stimulates bone marrow to produce and release neutrophils, reducing the duration and severity of chemotherapy-induced neutropenia and enabling higher chemotherapy dose intensity or density[4][6][7]. This protocol is used in many solid and hematological malignancies, both for primary prophylaxis against neutropenia/febrile neutropenia and for stem cell mobilization prior to autologous transplantation[7]. Combining G-CSF with chemotherapy does not modify the mechanism of cytotoxic agents but mitigates myelosuppression complications and supports patient recovery[6].
