Grape pomace + pomegranate pomace is a combination of the solid remains of grapes (after pressing for juice or wine) and the solid remains of pomegranates (after juice extraction), typically including skins, seeds, and pulp. This combination is rich in polyphenols, flavonoids, tannins, phenolic acids, and other bioactive compounds. Both components are known for their antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial activities as well as potential metabolic benefits. The mixture has been studied primarily as a dietary supplement or functional food ingredient rather than a pharmaceutical drug. Research suggests that combined intake may improve glucose metabolism through both intact polyphenols and microbial-derived metabolites[3]. The complementary profiles of extractable (EPP) and non-extractable polyphenols (NEPP) from each source suggest synergistic health effects[3]. Clinical studies have shown improvements in cardiovascular risk markers with similar products derived from grape or orange pomaces. Mechanistically, these effects are attributed to: - Antioxidant activity via scavenging free radicals - Anti-inflammatory action through modulation of cytokines such as interleukin-17 (IL-17) and interleukin-1β (IL-1β) - Modulation of gut microbiota - Inhibition of pathogenic bacteria growth This combination is being explored for use in dietary supplements aimed at improving metabolic health parameters such as glucose metabolism in individuals with obesity/metabolic syndrome[3], reducing inflammation[2], supporting cardiovascular health[3], providing antioxidant support[6][8][9], and potentially enhancing animal feed efficiency.
